Position Summary The Intern will assist with logistical, research, and administrative support for Freedom House’s Johannesburg office. She/he will have the opportunity to gain experience in monitoring & evaluation methodologies, data quality, program administration, USAID financial rules and regulations, and Freedom House’s methodology. The successful candidate will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa and reports to the Project Director for Southern Africa.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in international affairs, political science, or related field, or current college or graduate student Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing Proficiency with MS Office Suite specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Knowledge of human rights, rule of law, democracy, anti-corruption and international development concepts in Southern Africa Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times Knowledge of basic accounting principles and grant-related compliance requirements preferred Experience living, volunteering, working, or studying in Southern African countries preferred
Some Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with ensuring Freedom House Southern Africa’s (FHSA) monitoring and evaluation tracking system is updated and maintained at all times Derive information from the tracking system for input into reports to donors Assist with background research needed for proposals and program activities Provide administrative and logistical support for day-to-day functioning of FHSA programs Assist with maintenance of other databases as necessary Attend Africa related events and other external meetings as necessary and provide readout to team members Assist with other related projects as needed.
