Objective of the programme:
This large scale programme aims to promote regional food market development in East and Southern Africa. The programme will utilise the Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) approach and value chain development methodologies to ensure that interventions are pro-poor and inclusive of vulnerable groups. The programme will work on national and regional food staples markets, including:
Supply chain coordination and information systems
Markets for inputs and services
Storage and collateral systems
Regional and National Policy coherence
Objective of the role:
We are seeking applications from highly experienced experts for the role of Team Leader. The role of Team Leader will involve lead responsibilities for ensuring the effective delivery of all programme outputs, as well as overall management of the programme staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Delivering a comprehensive overview of selected food staples value chains at national and regional levels
- Supporting and overseeing the development of a political-economic analysis and comprehensive market analysis, using an M4P approach
- Development of an effective monitoring and evaluation strategy
- Ensuring the participation and engagement of key stakeholders within the selected countries, regions, and value chains
- Oversight and quality control in relation to programme activities
- Delivery of key reports and workplans
- Ensuring value for money (Vfm) as per DFID guidelines
- Supporting behaviour change at policy and household level
- Management of technical, administrative and administrative staff
- Delivering against defined milestones and targets
Requirements:
- At least 15 years of related experience, preferably with significant East or Southern African experience in PSD and value chains promotion
- Ideally at least a Masters Degree in economics, or a related discipline.
- Solid Challenge Fund/Grants Experience
- Experience with the M4P approach
- Strong experience and demonstrated competence in managing teams under donor funded programmes, particularly with DfID
- Significant networking and relationship management skills, as well as project management expertise
- Understanding of key approaches to monitoring and evaluation and the delivery of value for money
- Track record in delivering development results
- Track record in facilitating catalytic change that benefits poor people
- Experience of effectively managing large budgets of development aid ensuring value for money and strong fiduciary systems
- Strong strategic mindset
- Ability to locate to East or Southern Africa
