The role provides technical advice on governance within the federal context, enables capacity building in line with AAI's unique governance model and provides governance support to Country Programmes on their journey to full membership. The Governance Advisor supports the Head of Governance Development in development and ensuring high standards of governance across AAI are met and to provide technical advice to the International Board and Assembly and their committees.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Professionally, you will have a relevant post-graduate degree, preferably with legal certification. This will be coupled with knowledge and experience of Corporate Governance issues in an INGO environment and in-depth awareness of the relevant theories, concepts, debates and thinking in Non-Profit Governance, including a broad understanding of federations and international organisations.

  • This role requires an individual with experience in supporting Boards at a national level as well as solid project management experience, being able to coordinate and motivate ad hoc teams for specific tasks such as governance reviews. Good analytical skills including risk analysis is essential. You must have strong written and verbal communication skills in English (fluency in French, Spanish or Portuguese will be an advantage) as well as essential skills in capacity building and facilitating/presenting. The ability to interpret legal documents or advice and to proactively propose cost saving measures for the Unit will be an added advantage.

  • On a personal level you must be willing to travel. Further to this, you will have a strong commitment to develop, promote and practice AAI's vision, mission, values and strategy with a proven commitment to human rights and socio-economic justice.
