Description

The Sexual HIV Prevention Programme (SHIPP) of South Africa is a USAID-funded flagship PEPFAR initiative to galvanize and support impactful combination sexual prevention activities in South Africa (SA). This initiative takes a multi-sectoral approach linking to the health, education and social development sectors targeting in and out-of-school-youth and sexually-active adults in order to help achieve the national target of 50% reduction in HIV incidence in line with the National Strategic Plan (NSP) on HIV, STIs and TB 2012 -2016.

SHIPP aims to promote an enabling environment for evidence-based policy and strategy at the national and provincial levels supporting a mix of targeted HIV prevention interventions at the locality level (district, sub-district or municipality). The SHIPP team provides short, medium, and long-term technical assistance and capacitation at national, provincial, and local levels. SHIPP provides assistance to the South Africa Government (SAG) to implement combination prevention activities to strengthen the national HIV/ AIDS response.

Position Summary

STO would support the scale up of VMMC in the NDOH.

Key Responsibilities

•Support the NDOH HIV prevention Deputy Director (VMMC) to design and implement VMMC activities across the provinces.
 •Participate in capacity building initiatives to support the provinces with implementation of VMMC. •Support activities to increase awareness of VMMC in provinces, where medical circumcision is done traditionally – EC, LP, NW and parts of MP.
 •Support NDOH, Provinces, Districts and Localities in scaling up of VMMC.
 •Support health and education interventions that respond to VMMC, economics, and other local drivers of HIV transmission.
 •Regular reporting and sharing of experiences, strategies, and ideas with functional and location team.
•Coordinate the dissemination of relevant tools, and resources
 •Support monitoring and evaluation of the programme
•Promote quality improvements standards and adherence to national VMMC guidelines
•Provide support of quality improvements standards, to be implemented through the provinces.
 •Participate in research regarding effective HIV Prevention, social and behavior change interventions in relation to VMMC.
 •Support the production of publications and/or reports relating to the operational research and programme area ( VMMC )
 •Provide support to the Deputy director in day-to-day coordination of the programs, including preparing and attending of meetings, following up on post meetings actions

Qualifications and Experience

 •Degree in a related field
•5 Year’s minimum experience working in the relevant field
•Experience with donor driven programmes in the South African market.
 •Experience in HIV prevention programs.
•Knowledge of national, provincial and district health structures.
 •Experience in project management
•Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
 •Adaptable, willing to take initiative
•Strong organizational skills, attention to detail
 •Excellent communication skills
 •Willingness and ability to travel within South Africa
•Fluency in English is required, Fluency in key South African languages is a plus
