JOB SUMMARY:
The Sexual HIV Prevention Programme (SHIPP) of South Africa is a USAID-funded flagship PEPFAR initiative to galvanize and support impactful combination sexual prevention activities in South Africa. This initiative takes a multi-sectoral approach linking to the health, education and social development sectors targeting in and out-of-school-youth and sexually-active adults in order to help achieve the national target of 50% reduction in HIV incidence in line with the National Strategic Plan on HIV, STIs and TB 2012 -2016.

The incumbent will support the finalization of a national multi-sectoral strategy for adolescent girls (aged 15-19) and young women aged 20 to 24. The said strategy will support comprehensive sexual, reproductive health and social as well as structural services. It will be supported by national campaigns to be undertaken in collaboration with various partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Co-ordinate the implementation of a national HIV prevention strategy for girls and young women in South Africa
    Facilitate the review of evidence related to risk, behavior and HIV acquisition in this key population
    Garner support from multi-sectoral role players around the execution of the prevention strategy
    Participate in advocacy and social mobilization efforts directed at South African girls and young women

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  •     Master's degree in public health, social or health sciences an advantage
  •     A minimum of 5 years working with HIV and AIDS and/ or gender related programmes and interventions in South Africa
  •     A good understanding of gender dynamics in the country and a firm grasp of evidence-based knowledge around interventions that are effective in this context
  •     Previous involvement with interventions using a combination HIV prevention approach
  •     Experience with sexual and reproductive health programming for adolescent girls required.
  •     Strong experience in building, maintaining and working with multiple stakeholders
  •     Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a team environment and identify opportunities for collaboration across project teams
  •     Exceptional communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
  •     Strong knowledge of gender, STI and HIV AIDS prevention, family planning, sexual and reproductive health, science-based prevention programs and learning theory
