Durban has been selected to host the XXI International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016). The biennial
International AIDS Conference is the premier gathering for those working in the field of HIV, as well as policymakers, people living with HIV and others committed to ending the epidemic. AIDS 2016 is expected to convene more than 25,000 delegates from nearly 200 countries, including more than 2,500 journalists. The conference will be held in July 2016. The International AIDS Society, the world's leading independent association of HIV professionals, with 14,000 members in 190 countries, will organize AIDS 2016 in collaboration with international and local partners. The Head of Local Secretariat (HLS) will oversee the running of the XXI International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2016) Local Secretariat in Durban. S/He manages its various activities around the preparation of AIDS 2016 in Durban. Thanks to his/her skills and leadership, the HLS will be key in instigating efficient, proactive and collaborative spirit and processes within the office in close collaboration with the IAS Secretariat based in Geneva. S/He will supervise all local employees on a day-to-day basis and will ensure the smooth coordination of the activities performed by the local secretariat under the direction of the AIDS 2016 Secretariat respective responsible (i.e. Fundraising, Congress & Exhibition, Programme Development, Communication, Human Resources, Finance). The AIDS 2016 Local Secretariat (LS) in Durban will start with a small number of employees in 2014 (3-5 people) that will increase to approx. 20-25 closer to the Conference
