mothers2mothers (m2m) is an
international non-governmental organization based in Cape Town, SA, dedicated
to providing education and support to pregnant women and mothers living with
HIV, and preventing mother-to-child transmission. M2m empowers HIV-positive
pregnant women and new mothers to become role models in their communities by
promoting AIDS awareness, testing and uptake and retention in services. M2m

Purpose: The Senior Business Development Manager will be
responsible for coordinating and supporting the implementation of
mothers2mothers’ fundraising strategy, focused on institutional donors within
the global health sector. Primary functional responsibilities: 1) This person
will work closely with m2m’s donor relationship managers in South Africa, the
United States, Europe and across our program countries to manage proposal
development. Funding sources in this stream include US government; funding partnerships
with and sub-grants from USAID-funded grantees and contractors; non-US
bilateral funders either via the Ministry of Health in a program country or
bilateral NGO framework agreements; multilateral donors such as the Global
Fund; foundations and corporations. 2) This person will support and oversee the
department’s work in preparing donor reports. This position is located in Cape Town and reports to
the Director of Business Development.
Key Outcomes:
Support implementation of the
m2m institutional donor fundraising plan: – Manage, coordinate and support
proposal development for all existing and prospective institutional funders
(bilateral, multilateral, foundation and corporate). – Work with all program
and other departments to coordinate and support required report production for
existing donors. – Work closely with Business Development staff worldwide and
Program staff at headquarters and in program countries to:
Develop and maintain a full inventory of US
and other bilateral government funding sources, including prime grantees and
contractors working on issues related to PMTCT, HIV/AIDS and MNCH program work;
map existing and potential relationships with partners; evaluate and prioritize
potential sources and partners based on programmatic fit and other factors.
Support the work to approach bi-
and multilateral funders. Support strategies for engaging such donors and
provide support and information as needed. – Problem solve on effective
approaches to prospecting, cultivating and maintaining key institutional
relationships – Support research, monitoring and analysis of bilateral and
multilateral funding opportunities.
Manage Cape Town- based Business Development
staff members: – Supervise BD staff to edit, coordinate or write proposals,
narrative reports and budgets for submission to current partners/donors –
Supervise BD staff to work with program, finance, contract management and
technical staff to support grant reporting process and ensure that reporting
requirements are met in a timely manner Support the Business Development team
contribution to annual revenue forecasting
Qualifications and Experience:
A Bachelor’s degree and at least
ten years of professional experience (2-5 years in a senior role), or an
advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of five years professional
experience (in a senior role) in a development/ fundraising capacity,
particularly in working with USAID, DFID, the Global Fund, Unicef and other
government/multilateral agencies and/or their key partners and grantees in the
HIV/AIDS and global health sector. Proven successful track record in securing
funding from the above government/multilateral agencies in the global health
sector.
Extensive experience in grant
writing, the preparation of budgets, log frame development, work plan
development and other forms of donor proposal and report-writing.

complex, and often sensitive issues, in a succinct and compelling manner.
Familiarity with the
bilateral/multilateral funding processes key players within these institutions,
as well because key funding priorities within the global health sector and in
context to m2m’s mission.
Clearly demonstrated success at
understanding how to effectively engage with governments/multilaterals and
understand how best to navigate the politics associated with these agencies.
Willingness to travel up to 30
percent of the time, primarily to m2m program countries as required.

demonstrated interest and knowledge of international development and in
particular, global health issues.
