Narrative Description

Reporting to the Regional Vice President (RVP), Africa, the incumbent will liaise with member airlines (and other relevant industry and government stakeholders) across the region to maximize the value of their
membership in IATA while coordinating between Africa's Area Managers and the Regional Team on key airline regulatory issues and driving the achievement of key divisional targets across the region.

Responsibilities


  •     Develop and coordinate action plans on a country by country basis, to manage the Membership and Government Relations (MGR) priorities and targets across the region, ensuring both a unified regional approach and an adequate country-specific coverage of the MGR topics;
  •     These plans are to be designed annually, implemented continuously and reported quarterly, jointly with the relevant country managers providing support and training when necessary for the successful achievement of the set goals;
  •     In coordination with the relevant MGR (and other appropriate IATA) departments, provide Area Managers and other employees in Africa with guidance and support for achieving regional targets as set in the country action plans;
  •     Provide timely reports to the RVP Africa (and Senior Vice President MGR as appropriate) regarding progress of work and achievement of set objectives; Support the Regional Vice President in advocating industry positions to national governments and regulatory authorities;
  •     Participate in building
  •     and maintaining proactive approach to relationships with Member airlines and other industry stakeholders, including airports, authorities, suppliers and service providers across the region;
  •     create and maintain relevant partnerships;
  •     Promote IATA's activities, services and products among airlines, governments, regional organizations, airports, ANSPs and other industry stakeholders; Attend meetings and conferences with industry stakeholders;
  •     organize meetings as appropriate;
  •     Contribute to developing relationships with non-Member airlines and making them aware of IATA's services and products;
  •     Provide guidance and leadership at the regional level on key regulatory issues, including coordinating the lobbying for IATA positions on key MGR, and other regulatory issues across the region;
  •     Coordinate in collaboration with the regional team and the Africa Area Managers the implementation of IATA campaigns as per Board priorities;
  •     Any other tasks as assigned by the RVP Africa .

Qualifications and Skills

  •     University degree, ideally in Law, Economics, Political Science, International Relations or Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE);
  •     Five to ten years experience in the airline industry with good understanding of the Civil Aviation Authorities and the African region;
  •     Knowledge and experience in aviation environmental issues;
  •     Outgoing personality, excellent social skills, ability to influence people in a multi-cultural environment;
  •     Sharp analytical skills, discretion and excellent oral presentation skills;
  •     Excellent written and spoken English;
  •     knowledge of other African languages an advantage.
