Our Secretariat is based in Oxford, with advocacy and campaigns offices in Washington DC, New York, Brussels, Geneva, Brasilia and a liaison office with the Africa Union in Addis Ababa.
This post will be part of the OI Secretariat Advocacy team and based in the Oxfam Great Britain Johannesburg South Africa office.
Oxfam International is looking for a Pan Africa Campaigner
The post-holder will lead on engagement with key pan-African institutions, high profile individuals and work in key African countries. Engage to develop and implement a strategy of advocacy, media and popular campaigning work on aid quantity and quality, and development finance more broadly, within the context of wider Oxfam campaigns and processes around the Millennium Development Goals, and the post-MDG period.
They will use the benefit of a South Africa based location, to lead on influencing and engaging with key regional Africa n institutions located there including the Pan Africa Parliament and NEPAD, and will work closely with other colleagues funded under a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. The Pan Africa Campaigner will work closely with the African Union Finance Ministers and Pan Africa Civil Society organizations working with aid and development financing
The successful applicant will have:
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate, influence and negotiate both internally and externally
•Ability to think strategically and achieve results
•Ability to work autonomously
•Undergraduate degree in a relevant subject / skill set
•Strong interpersonal skills including good team work, and experience of working in multi-cultural and virtual teams
•Commitment to the aims of Oxfam to end poverty and suffering
•Computer literate and fluent English language skills
•Willingness to travel for up to 10 weeks each year
•Fluency in English required and competence in French and/or Spanish is desirable.
The post holder must have the legal right to be employed in the South Africa.
