IFC's highly qualified and motivated professionals come from around the world, bringing a wide variety of experiences.The Treasury Client Solutions Department provides IFC's clients with innovative forms of local currency financing with a focus on the development of domestic debt markets to help increase the capacity for long-term local currency investment. The group has global responsibility for derivative transactions, structured products, and debt capital markets including IFC's own local currency bond issuances. This is an exciting opportunity to work in an area of strategic priority to IFC, to get exposure to cross-currency derivatives markets, local currency bond issuances, as well as a wide variety of transaction structures, covering various asset classes and geographic markets, and contribute to first-time transactions in emerging markets. The position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa

Duties and Accountabilities


  1.     Develop, structure, and execute transactions in the debt capital markets area and structured products.
  2.     Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including international investment banks, local banks, capital market firms, investors, and regulators, at a senior level.
  3.     Market treasury products to clients, regulatory agencies and banks.
  4.     Conduct market intelligence of local and international debt capital markets.
  5.     Manage the preparation and execution of IFC's local currency bond issuances and associated approval process.
  6.     Design, maintain and improve financial models to structure, evaluate and price innovative transactions.
  7.     Provide training and knowledge

Selection Criteria

  •     Master's degree in Finance or Financial Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  •     At least 5 years finance experience, preferably in fixed income and/or structured finance within an investment bank, rating agency, or other capital-markets related entity.
  •     Knowledge of debt capital markets, and enthusiasm for the development of domestic capital markets.
  •     Sound business judgment, strong negotiation skills, and a successful track record in transaction execution.
  •     Strong analytical and problem solving capability.
  •     Excellent conceptual understanding of fixed income instruments and derivatives and standard information platforms such as Bloomberg or Reuters.
  •     Good financial modeling skills and advanced knowledge of Excel and other statistical software packages is desirable.
  •     Strong quantitative and financial modeling skills; advanced knowledge of Excel and other statistical software packages is desirable.
  •     Ability to multi-task and to pay attention to detail, even when under tight deadlines.
  •     Excellent communication skills in English; candidates with additional language skills have a competitive advantage.
  •     Motivated, results-oriented self-starter who can operate successfully in a team environment, and who is willing to travel.
