Job Qualifications:

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Associate Director is responsible for leading and managing the School of Media and Communication Study Away programs. The Associate Director develops, plans, promotes, manages and evaluates all SMC Study Away initiatives consistent with the educational mission of the school and the university’s emphasis on international education. Current programs include Dublin, London, New York City, and South Africa. A recent addition includes the International Internship Program in Barcelona and Hong Kong. New programs are also being developed. The Associate Director formulates program-specific business plans, administers scholarships, creates revenue targets and maintains expenditure budgets, sometimes in partnership with overseas institutions, serves on related committees and coordinates the SMC International Committee. While working closely with faculty program directors, and the International Programs Academic Director, the incumbent supervises the Assistant Director for Study Away Programs and Special Projects and oversees student peer advisors. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree and at least four years related experience working with study away programs and students in a teaching or advising capacity. Experience working at an international university campus or U.S. based Study Away Office. Demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience in a post-secondary institution in a student services function, preferably Study Away. Demonstrated computer experience including Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel, presentation software and student services system. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills and Abilities:

*Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to speak clearly in front of large groups of individuals.

*Demonstrated presentation and interpersonal skills.

*Strong organizational and customer service skills along with the ability to effectively interact with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.

*Ability to work nights and weekends when necessary.

*Demonstrated ability to create, define, and manage projects in a fast-paced office.

*Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.


Preferred:

*Experience with Banner, Blackboard, and reporting software.
