Save the Children is currently recruiting for upcoming
USAID-funded education programs throughout Southern Africa,
focusing on such topics as early grade reading, community mobilization, school
health and nutrition, and increasing access for girls and other vulnerable
populations. The Chief of Party (COP) will be accountable for the strategic
vision and overall leadership to the project team and will be managing the
technical assistance and program administration initiatives. S/he will also
oversee the relationships with partners and sub-grantees and will be
implementing activities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,
ensuring that all contractual requirements of the award are met. The COP will
oversee the preparation and submissions of technical and financial reports
requested by USAID/donor and will help to coordinate assistance with key
governmental counterparts and other critical stakeholders.
Key for success in this role is the ability to build staff
capacity for program activities, ensure that monitoring and evaluation
mechanisms are in place to improve and measure its direct impact, represent
Save the Children in national forums and share best practices regarding Save
the Children’s experiences in community-based school education projects. The
COP will also be responsible for coordinating the preparation of timely reports
to donors and partners and developing proposals to raise funds to ensure
sustainability and growth of program activities.
Requirements
•Master’s degree in Education, Public Health, Nutrition,
International Development or related field preferably •At least 10+ years of
experience directing and managing international, multi-partner programs,
providing technical, administrative and financial guidance and supervision,
demonstrating proven skills to implement this project
•Minimum of five years
of leading large-scale education or development project teams is critical
•Previous experience as a COP preferred as well as
experience working in Africa
•Previous experience
with effective project management, personnel management and financial/grants
management preferred; Experience with USAID rules and regulations required
•Team Player with demonstrated skills in strategic and
program planning and a proven ability in promoting and collaborating closely
with the government, community and donor counterparts
•Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability
to lead and work effectively in large team situations
•Excellent oral and
written English communication skills are required (local language skills a
plus)
•Strong understanding
of holistic child development and the ways children learn, including
early-literacy methodologies, and the major barriers to school access and
quality
•Representational and
advocacy skills and familiarity with the education policy environments
preferred
•Good interpersonal
skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels
