About the role
The Finance Officer will support the Finance Department in
effectively managing the Australia Awards accounting and reporting function and
ensuring that the Finance function provides timely and efficient support to the
programme.
Key responsibilities
include:
- Prepare all Australia Awards payment request and checking that appropriate supporting documents have been provided and the correct cost code have been used , in preparation for submission for payment at local office or Accounts Payables-Support Office in Brisbane.
- Ensure that all payments are paid on time by processing of all cash and bank transactions and wire transfers for payment.
- Preparing all cash, bank reconciliations and account reconciliations on a monthly and ad hoc basis.
- Assist the Finance and Administration manager in tracking and monitoring expenditure against budgets and in line with budget constraints.
- Maintaining accounting spread sheets in accordance with internal requirements
- Review of travel advance request and claims and imprest accounts; assist staff members in the preparation before submitting to relevant finance counterparts.
- Updating fixed assets register twice a year and on an ad hoc basis.
- Proposing and discussing changes and improvements to the current accounting setup.
- Assist the Australia Awards team in the following financial functions:
- maintain financial policies and procedures;
- maintain cash controls;
- establish and maintain supplier accounts;
- process supplier invoices;
- maintain the Cheque Requisition and Payment Approval system;
- ensure data is entered into the system;
- ensure security for all credit cards and verify charges;
- ensure transactions are properly recorded and entered into the accounting system;
- petty cash;
- assistance in compliance reporting; and
- general ledger / journal entries.
Coordinate input
to monthly and quarterly-term planning, budgeting and forecasts
Assistance in
daily and weekly cash flow reports
Other duties from
time to time as may be reasonably requested by the Finance & Administration
Manager, Project Manager and Team Leader.
About You
Selection criteria
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or related field, plus at least 3 years’ all round experience in accounting or related discipline
- Qualified by experience in which case work experience longer than three years will be required.
- High standard of written and verbal communication skills
- Well developed and highly effective organizational skills
- Strong accounting, business and administration skills
- Ability to thrive under pressure and balance or prioritize several competing projects at the same time
- Demonstrated people skills with a flexible and collaborative personal style
- Intermediate to Advance skills in Microsoft Office – Excel and Word
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Experience with project accounting within development or not for profit sector highly desirable
- Fluency in any/all Portuguese, French, Arabic languages would be highly desirable.
